On 19 December, at the International Christmas Festival of Arts in Novosibirsk, one of the most unusual concerts took place: the trombonist from Sweden Elias Faingersh and Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra (artistic director and chief conductor - Thomas Sanderling) performed at Arnold Kats State Concert Hall. Conductor - Peter Belyakin.

In the program, the musicians presented to the audience the works of composers of different epochs, united by a "Shakespearean theme". The concert featured the overture-fantasy “Hamlet” (on Shakespeare) for the orchestra in F minor (op. 67) by P.Tchaikovsky, the 2nd  suite from the ballet “Romeo and Juliet” by S.Prokofiev. For the first time in Novosibirsk, the drama for trombone and orchestra "Hamlet" by Swedish composer Victoria Borisova-Ollas was performed.

Trombonist Elias Faingersh is known throughout the world. His concert programs connect contemporary music and dramatic art.

An unusual concert gave the audience of the International Christmas Festival an opportunity to get acquainted not only with the standards of classical music of the XIXth and XXth centuries, but also to see how modern composers and musicians rethink the heritage of the brilliant playwrights of the past.
