Young Spanish star will play 320-year-old Stradivarius cello at Philharmonic

On 24th of March Novosibirsk will hold the performance of young Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrandez, the winner of the IV International Competition named after Tchaikovsky. Musician plays a unique instrument by Antonio Stradivari, created in 1696. Ferrandez’ performance will be the part of the program of the Fourth Vadim Repin’s Trans-Siberian Art Festival.

On 24th of March at Arnold Kats State Concert Hall will be a concert, "Ice and Flame", which will bring to the stage Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrandez and Latvian conductor Andris Poga. They will perform with Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra - the main collective of Novosibirsk Philharmonic and the base orchestra of the festival. A unique cello "Lord Aylesford", created by the legendary master Antonio Stradivari in 1696, will sound in the concert.

Pablo Ferrandez has been playing on this instrument since 2014. Cello was named after one of its owners, an amateur musician, in whose family it was for almost 100 years, since the 1780s. Grigory Piatigorsky – a true legend in the classical music world – played this instrument, the largest made by Stradivari.

Ferrandez is one of the youngest participants in the program of Trans-Siberian Art Festival (excluding program "Children - to children", where very young performers come to the stage). He drew everyone's attention by winning Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015. Today, 25-year-old musician is in demand around the world, he performed with such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta, Yuri Temirkanov, Gidon Kremer, regularly plays with the Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre, the Vienna State Opera, Shtutgart symphony orchestra, orchestra Kremerata Baltica.

Among the engagements of Pablo Ferrandez for the current concert season there are performance together with Anne-Sophie Mutter and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as numerous openings - with the Philharmonic Orchestra Bi-bi-si, the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the National Symphony Orchestra of the Italian Radio and Television, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian national Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Orchestra.

Berlioz’ Overture “Roman Carnival”, Concerto for Cello and Orchestra by Dvorak and Shostakovich's Fifteenth Symphony will sound at the concert in Novosibirsk.

Trans-Siberian Art Festival will be held in Novosibirsk from 15th of March to 3rd of April. The artistic director of the forum is the star of world classical music, native Novosibirsk citizen, violinist Vadim Repin. This year prices of tickets for the festival are set almost twice lower than the prices of the previous festival.
