Artistic director of the Ensemble "Novosibirsk Kamerata" is Fabio Mastrangelo. For its creation the collective is obliged to Arnold Katz: by his decision Ensemble was created in 1995 from the musicians of Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra.

Novosibirsk appears all along Shostakovich's biography. During The Second World War Leningrad Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra headed by Yevgeny Mravinsky, the collective highly regarded by the composer, was evacuated right here; Shostakovich's friend Ivan Sollertinsky - brilliant musicologist, artistic director of the Leningrad Philharmonic – was working here and passed away in 1944.  On 9th of July, 1942 in Novosibirsk Leningrad orchestra in the presence of the author performed his Seventh Symphony. According to historians, the activity of Mravinsky’s orchestra in Novosibirsk during the war formed a listener of classical music, who ten years later formed the basis of the public of Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, established in 1956 and headed by young Arnold Kats.

Creative work of Shostakovich always played big role in the repertoire of Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra. Under the direction of Arnold Kats the collective performed all fifteen symphonies of the composer. In 1965 the author attended Novosibirsk’s performance of Symphony №13 “Babi Yar” based on the poems of Yevgeny Yevtushenko. After the world premiere, which took place in 1962, this music was banned for performing. In Novosibirsk it was performed contrary to the prohibition, and unpleasant consequences, which could be triggered by a concert, did not stop Arnold Kats.
